AI Software Engineer

Compensation: $80,000–$120,000 USD per year

Our client is a fast-growing healthcare technology company on a mission to transform healthcare access and delivery. They’re looking for an experienced AI Software Engineer to join their Platform Engineering team. This role is ideal for a backend-focused, software-first engineer who’s passionate about scalable APIs, cloud systems, developer tools, and supporting AI/ML infrastructure, with occasional contributions to frontend development.

About the Role
As an AI Software Engineer, you’ll play a critical role in developing and optimizing backend systems, cloud infrastructure, and AI/ML support pipelines. You’ll work cross-functionally to ensure seamless integration, high performance, security, and scalability.

Key Responsibilities

Backend Development

• Design and develop scalable, secure APIs and microservices.
• Optimize data systems (PostgreSQL, AWS RDS, ElasticSearch).
• Build authentication/authorization systems (RBAC, OAuth, JWT).
• Collaborate with frontend developers for smooth API-to-UI integration.

AI/ML Infrastructure & Data Pipelines

• Support AI/ML model deployment and inference pipelines.
• Contribute to data pipelines (Apache Spark, Kafka, Flink).
• Enhance observability (MLflow, DataDog, Prometheus).
• Optimize infrastructure for LLM and model training workloads.

Core Platform & Infrastructure Engineering

• Architect and maintain AWS-based infrastructure (Kubernetes/EKS, Terraform, Terragrunt).
• Build and manage developer platforms, API gateways, and core services.
• Automate deployments using CI/CD tools (BuildKite, ArgoCD, GitHub Actions).

Frontend Development (Occasional)

• Contribute to internal dashboards and developer tools (React, TypeScript).
• Build user-facing components to improve workflows and visibility.
• Ensure clean integration between APIs and frontend features.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
• 4+ years in software/platform engineering or infrastructure automation.
• Strong expertise in backend systems, microservices, API design.
• Deep experience with PostgreSQL, AWS RDS, ElasticSearch.
• Proficient in cloud services (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
• Skilled with Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform, Pulumi, Terragrunt).
• Scripting/automation abilities (Python, Bash, or similar).
• Familiar with CI/CD tools (BuildKite, Jenkins, GitHub Actions).
• Experience with observability platforms (DataDog, FluentBit, Prometheus).
• Strong problem-solving and collaboration skills.

Nice to Have

• Experience with React, TypeScript, or modern frontend frameworks.
• Familiarity with AI/ML tools (SageMaker, Triton Inference Server, TensorFlow Serving).
• Knowledge of MLOps, LLMOps, and model deployment best practices.
• Experience with streaming architectures (Kafka, Flink, Spark).
• Understanding of secure, HIPAA-compliant AI/ML systems.
